During Thursday’s press conference of the “Katorse” lead stars, the entertainment press noticed the big change in Ejay, from his looks, aura and how he handles questions thrown at him by the media.
“Nung una po talaga nung paglabas ko alam ko po sa sarili ko na hindi pa ako ready,” he said. “Sinabi ko pa kay Direk Lauren (Dyogi) na ‘direk ayoko muna po hindi pa ako ready, siguro bigyan ninyo muna ko ng mga two months.”
In that stretch, Ejay was able to study and learn more about the realm of entertainment. “Inaayos ko lang marami akong nalaman, marami akong natutunan. Kung paano makisalamuha sa mga tao lalo na sa showbiz,” he said.
He was thankful that there were still people encouraging him to unleash and develop his ability.
Ejay disclosed that his early days in showbiz were not so smooth. He has heard negative comments and read unfavorable write-ups on him judging his personality and acting abilities.
But the newbie actor did not let criticisms affect him and help himself to rise above his detractors.
“Kailangan na may mapatunayan ako kasi nilait-lait ako dati,” Ejay said. “Sabi ko kailangan ko lumaban kasi ang daming write-up sa akin na masasama kesyo hindi ko daw kaya na walang alam. Sabi ko abangan niyo nalang po.”
Now, Ejay is being lined up as one of ABS-CBN’s most promising actors. Several projects are coming his way. He has been the latest addition to roster of talented actors in “May Bukas Pa” giving him a chance to act alongside luminaries like KC Concepcion.
“Ang tagal kong hinintay ito. Parang gusto ko nga magtrabaho nalang ng magtrabaho. Gusto ko lagi sa akin ang camera. Sobrang excited talaga ko sa project na ito," Ejay said referring to his role in “Katorse.”
Under the direction of Malu Sevilla, Ejay will give life to the character of Gabby the “bad boy” in the series. He is the younger brother of Alfred played by Xian Lim. Ejay will be paired with Erich Gonzales who will play the 14-year-old girl named Nene.
“Katorse” is set to premiere on June 8 on ABS-CBN. (JRDB/Sunnex)
