He was the winner of the second season of the much-followed “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition” but instead of praises and cheers, Ejay Falcon received criticisms – that he didn’t deserve to win and he didn’t stand a chance in showbiz, among others!

But Ejay wasn’t bothered. He waited for his chance to prove his detractors wrong. And now he has a show, wherein to show his acting mettle. “I’m very grateful to ABS-CBN who gave me this big opportunity. I’m going to work hard in this show,” expressed Ejay in Filipino during the press conference of his new soap opera “Katorse” with Erich Gonzales and Xian Lim. “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time and I’m also happy with the support they’ve given me.”

Ejay shared that after he won “PBB Teen Edition 2” he told Lauren Dyogi, the Business Unit Head responsible for the success of the “Pinoy Big Brother” franchise in the Philippines, that he wasn’t ready yet for a career in showbiz.

“I was given two months, but three months passed and I think I was away for 10 months all in all. I had to fix a lot of things in my life but I learned a lot especially how to get along with different people in showbiz,” he said.

He added that he was aware of the negative write-ups like “he doesn’t know a thing or two about acting.”

“Actually I had to help myself get over these criticisms. I told myself that I have to prove something to myself and to prove to my critics that I can act,” he exclaimed.

With “Katorse,” Ejay finally has the chance to prove that he has what it takes to be an actor. He will be reprising the role of Gabby Concepcion from the original movie of the same title that the series was based on. This will also be his first lead role in his budding showbiz career.

So what was his preparation?

“When I discovered that I would be playing the character that Mr. Gabby Concepcion did decades ago, there was pressure because he was a good actor. I also had to work out so I would have a good physique like him before,” he replied.

He added that he with his co-actors were also immersed in a number of acting workshops under the tutelage of director Gina Alajar which for him has taught him how he would attack scenes and interpret his character on television. Their director Malu Sevilla was also patient enough to point out what was expected from them as actors. One of her requirements was for them to watch and study the movie “Katorse.”

Among the challenging scenes he encountered in the series was his kissing scene with his leading lady Erich Gonzales. And during their press conference, Erich revealed that she was conscious about Ejay teasing her after their kissing scene that she was a “good kisser.” While the young actor replied that kissing Erich was “masarap!”

“Katorse” is about teenagers finding out what adulthood is all about early in their lives. The question then is how they would face obstacles at a time when they’re expected to be still “innocent.”
So does Ejay think he is still innocent in life?

“I’m not innocent anymore because I kissed Erich already,” he joked. “I’ve gone through a lot in my life but I know I still have a lot to learn. Now that I’m in showbiz I know there are still a lot of challenges ahead of me. I’ll push myself to learn more because I know I still lack enough knowledge,” he admitted.

Ejay Falcon also acted alongside KC Concepcion in “May Bukas Pa” which he also considered a blessing in his budding career.

“I was excited meeting KC. She is very nice and warm. But I’m more excited about ‘Katorse’ because this is a big break for me… I never expected such opportunity would be given to me and I’m very happy that ABS-CBN entrusted me this exciting project,” he remarked.

“Katorse” premieres on June 8.
